Childrens Playhouses

Luckily, the vast majority of playhouses offer easy assembly which can be done by two or three people in a mere matter of hours. Our playhouses utilise a modular design and comprehensive instructions for particular ease of assembly.

In terms of tools, you’ll require some basic instruments, such as a hammer, drill and drill bits, screwdriver, tape measure and stepladder.

As a general rule of thumb, an average sized playhouse should span a floor area of around 50-100 square feet. Any walls need not greatly exceed the height of your children.

Though, do bear in mind that the ideal playhouse size ultimately ranges from person to person and garden to garden, according to your individual wants and needs. This also depends on what type of playhouse you want. For example, a two-storey or tower playhouse will naturally be taller than a standard wooden playhouse.

This is completely up to the imaginations of you and your children. The versatility offered by playhouses means that the sky's the limit when it comes to decorating your playhouse - both inside and out.

Some popular examples of things to put inside a playhouse include:

  • Shelves and storage
  • Furniture
  • Cushions and blankets
  • Fairy lights

Here at Garden Buildings Direct, we also offer a range of accessories to deck out your playhouse with, such as steering wheels, bells, periscopes, telescopes and much more!

Whether or not you install a base under your playhouse is totally up to you. While many people choose to simply place their playhouse directly onto grass, others worry that doing so may lead to rotting wood as moisture from the grass seeps in.

If you wish to fit a base under your playhouse, then wooden decking, patio and bark all represent viable alternatives.

Placing your playhouse directly onto grass is absolutely fine and is generally considered the most practical and hassle-free option.

However, if you choose to pursue this option, then we would advise you to first treat the bottom of each playhouse panel with a waterproof wood preserve, so as to prevent moisture from the grass seeping into the wood. If not done, this will likely lead to the wood rotting over time.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to move a wooden playhouse, due to their excessive weight. However, if you’re dead set on moving your playhouse to a different part of your garden, then one option may be to lift it up using a jack, then place poles/pipes underneath as a means of rolling it to your preferred destination.

If necessary, more heavy-duty equipment can be rented to do this same job with much less hassle involved, albeit while incurring a fee.

A Wendy House is a popular and well-respected option for many. Luckily, planning permission isn’t currently required for a building which is at least 1 metre from any boundary in a rear garden with a floor area of less than 15 square metres and a roof up to 2.5 metres high.
