Garden Buildings Direct is one of the UK's leading manufacturers for wooden storage sheds. With different features and design styles, our garden sheds are designed to be versatile. Windowed options offer a natural source of light, which is key for DIY or woodwork projects. Alternatively, a windowless design adds that extra bit of security, with everything out of sight and out of mind. We offer wooden garden sheds and a lot more sizes and designs to fit all budgets.
Whether you’re looking for tongue and groove or overlap cladding, apex or pent roofing, a tool shed or a garden office, you’ll surely find what you need here. Our wooden storage sheds offer premium value at a budget-friendly price, all in classic styles. With varying feature options, you can turn your wooden storage unit into a more versatile garden shed, with multiple functions.
Our premium tongue and groove panels are 11mm thick and are pre-engineered to interlock together. This design gives our timber products their strength and weather protection. Tongue and groove cladding is as strong and weather-resistant as shiplap cladding, preventing any rainwater from entering the shed and damaging your belongings.
Our overlap cladding panels are 7mm thick, which are specifically designed to overlap so that water runs off the side of the unit. Our overlap panel sheds offer a cheaper wooden shed, with a shed base which is more suited for first-time buyers, small families or new homeowners on a budget. However, while this design will protect your belongings in most conventional rain storms, if you’re looking for absolute long-term protection from the elements tongue and groove cladding is more appropriate.
For maximum protection, you can opt for our pressure treated sheds. Pressure-treated woods have been immersed in preserving liquids and then left in a pressured chamber so the preservatives set into the wood. Not only is it a more sustainable way of treating timber, but a pressure treated timber shed will require less maintenance over time. This saves you time and money in re-treating your shed, resulting in a longer-lasting shed.
That being said, even pressure treated sheds may need care and maintenance every few years. Speak to a member of our customer team to discuss maintenance requirements of our buildings to help you choose the right product.
Our wooden shed products come fitted with either a traditional apex roof or a contemporary pent roof. Your choice of roofing style will depend on what look you are going for but also what you might be using your wooden shed for.
An apex roof is the traditional pointed roof made famous by kids drawings of houses and makes for a classic log cabin aesthetic in your wooden garden buildings. Apex roofing also provides more headroom, so if you’re looking to use your wooden shed as a garden workshop, office or any other building you’re going to be spending a lot of time in, an apex roof might be a better choice.
A pent roof, on the other hand, provides a sleek and sharp contemporary design look for your garden building. While some pent sheds are constructed to a height that accommodates for standing room, pent roofing is generally more suitable to buildings you’re not likely to be spending time in, such as tool sheds, bike storage or other storage sheds.
Choose between sheds with or without windows, depending on your needs. Windows are an essential addition to any garden office or workshop, but they might provide a security issue for storage sheds. Take a look at our windowless options for storing bikes, wheelie bins or garden tools, and our sheds with windows for a summer house or tool shed.
We carry a wide range of garden storage solutions beyond our wooden sheds for sale, made with hard-wearing materials such as aluminium, steel and plastic. Whatever style of shed you’re looking for, our products deliver premium value at budget-friendly prices.

The lifespan of a wooden shed can greatly range, depending on a number of crucial factors. These include the type of wood used when manufacturing the shed, how well constructed it is and its location within your garden.
Moreover, as timber is a natural product, wooden sheds are prone to warping and rotting over time if not treated and maintained correctly.
Overall, a good-quality shed is capable of lasting upwards of fifteen years if properly looked after!
If you want your wooden shed to last, then proper care and maintenance is a must, with rotting wood being one of the most common problems to deal with.
There are several ways to prevent your shed from rotting:
If you intend to have your shed placed on a foundation or base, then we would recommend having the bottom of your wooden shed a minimum of four inches off the ground. This is to allow for sufficient air circulation underneath which is essential in stopping the underside of your shed from becoming damp, and rotting as a result.
Wooden sheds can suffer from both ground moisture, as well as moisture in the air, with these issues becoming particularly prevalent in winter.
Moisture, caused by wet conditions, can become trapped inside sheds - especially sheds which aren’t used very often. A sudden drop in temperature can then cause this moisture to form condensation on the shed panels, roof and floor, leading to the formation of damp and mould.
You can keep a wooden shed dry by venting your shed as much as possible during the winter and other cold months. This will allow fresh air to circulate through your shed, preventing a build-up of moisture.
Heating your shed is also an effective means of keeping damp under control. If your shed has mains power, then a tubular or electric heater is definitely worth considering, in order to keep the internal temperature above the point where moisture starts to become overly prevalent.
The most affordable type of shed cladding offered here at Garden Buildings Direct is that of overlap cladding. Our overlap cladding panels are 7mm thick and offer a cheaper garden shed - one which is ideally suited to first-time buyers or families on a budget.
This type of cladding is named so as panels overlap, in order to cause water to run off the side of the unit, helping to provide protection during conventional rain storms and other forms of weather.
Shiplap cladding has a small channel which runs along the side of the timber. This channel encourages speedy water runoff. Tongue and groove involves panels interlocking, in order to create one, much stronger panel.
Tongue and groove sheds are brilliant for storing heavy or valuable items, thanks to this type of cladding providing additional strength, structural integrity and security. However, the water runoff offered by shiplap cladding helps to protect it from any and all water damage.
These are both great cladding options to pursue, meaning that preference can be determined by your individual wants and needs.
